Originally an 11th-century winegrower's farm, it captured the hearts of the Counts of Challes, invited to a jousting tournament in Chambéry by Count Vert, who had a fortified castle built above the historic winery in 1450. It is to Etienne de Challes that we owe this first paragraph of a story that will include many others. The Château remained in the family until 1594 , when it was in possession of the high, middle and low jurisdiction of the commune and holder of feudal rents on around thirty parishes.
