Barcelo offers excellent value for money and a high standard of catering and accommodation which we have enjoyed on many holidays for many years so delighted to be adding this new venue to our calendar of overseas bridge holidays. The Occidental Menorca Hotel is located just 300 meters from Punta Prima beach. It features five outdoor pools, a spa and air-conditioned bedrooms with private balconies. Bedrooms at the Occidental Menorca have modern décor and are equipped with tiled floors, free WiFi and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. This hotel has a buffet restaurant serving international food and show cooking. There is also a bar next to the pool and another in the sports area. The Occidental Menorca has tennis courts. Menorca Airport is only 20 minutes away. Bridge will be played in the Gregal meeting room which comfortably holds 24 tables and has good natural day light and is directly next to the main restaurant.
All bedrooms have walk in shower, balcony, fridge, safe, tea, coffee & kettle.

Having visited this hotel and area before the pandemic, I was keen to return and check that it still offers everything we look for in a relaxed and enjoyable bridge holiday. I’m pleased to say it did not disappoint — this remains a truly charming and welcoming place to stay.
The trip began smoothly with a friendly driver from Sun Transfers waiting for me on arrival. He spoke excellent English (though I made an effort with my Spanish!), and I was whisked away in a brand-new electric Mercedes. After a little encouragement, he showed me just what 580 horsepower feels like — a short but very entertaining 25-minute journey! Along the way, he shared some lovely insights into this beautiful island.
Arriving at the hotel, I immediately felt the relaxed holiday atmosphere. The setting is picturesque, with low-rise buildings and only a short stroll to the seafront. As always with Barcelona Hotels, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was of a consistently high standard.
Though the hotel was fully booked during my three night stay, and the restaurant understandably busy at peak times, everything ran smoothly. When we return for the bridge holiday in October, the hotel will be quieter, so we can look forward to even more attentive service.
Rooms are not overly large, but they are well-appointed and very comfortable, with walk-in showers, a generous balcony, and tea and coffee-making facilities. I slept very well — possibly helped by the all-inclusive wine! Joking aside, the nights were peaceful thanks to the clever layout of accommodation in smaller buildings around the main complex.
The bridge room is conveniently located next to the restaurant and comfortably accommodates well over 20 tables that we are expecting. There’s plenty of natural daylight, and a nearby bar and toilets ensure convenience during play.
The immediate area around the hotel is well-kept and pleasant, with a good selection of bars and shops just outside, and more along the promenade. I made it my mission to sample a fair few of them — purely in the name of research, of course — and enjoyed every moment.
This is a small, relaxed resort that perfectly suits our type of holiday. As with our other overseas bridge breaks, we’ll include some optional and included excursions to help guests explore more of this lovely island.
I’ll be returning in October and can wholeheartedly recommend this location for anyone looking to enjoy a leisurely, sociable, and thoroughly enjoyable bridge holiday in the sun.
